151G Dredger on Eastbourne Beach
151G Dredger on Eastbourne Beach
Eastbourne’s sea defenses being refreshed as storm damage had washed away much of the shoreline shingle, hundreds of tons of gravel are being sprayed from just off-shore by a giant dredger (The SOSPAN-DAU) a constant battle against the elements.
Miles and miles of English coast were battered by high winds and powerful waves, which has sped up the rate at which the beach is dwindling. The Sospan Dau pictured here sucks up sediment from one point along the beach, mix it with water and spit it back out. The process, known as rainbowing, should help protect the beach in years to come or at least until the next storm.
